Loreauville's Acadian Odyssey Monument

There are many places along the banks of the Bayou Teche where moss-draped oaks and slow, swirling currents offer up an invitation to step into the past and imagine the odyssey of the first Acadians. Now, the village of Loreauville is proud to offer everyone a chance to re-imagine that arduous 1765 journey that began in Acadie, now Nova Scotia, and ended on the Teche Ridge.

The mission of the Iberia African American Historical Society is to foster the appreciation, understanding, and teaching of the long, rich, and unique history of African Americans in Iberia Parish; and also, by example and through programs and activities, to encourage and promote research, preservation, and publication of historical materials.
