Tabasco Offers Guided Tours

The new TABASCO® Visitors Center on Avery Island is now offering guided tours by curator and historian Shane K. Bernard, Ph.D. 

The price for both groups and individuals is $10 per person with a $200 minimum. The $10 fee includes the TABASCO® tour. Reservations will be required at least one week in advance. The guided tour will take approximately 1-1.5 hours to complete.

A native of south Louisiana, Bernard holds degrees in English and History from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a doctorate in History from Texas A&M University. Bernard authored five books about south Louisiana history and culture, including Swamp Pop: Cajun and Creole Rhythm and Blues (1996); The Cajuns: Americanization of a People (2003); Tabasco: An Illustrated History (2007); Cajuns and their Acadian Ancestors: A Young Reader's History (2008); and Teche: A History of Louisiana's Most Famous Bayou (October 2016).

For nearly a quarter of a century, Bernard has served as historian and curator to Avery Island Inc. and McIlhenny Company, maker of TABASCO brand products since 1868. Bernard has been interviewed about south Louisiana history and culture by numerous media outlets, including the BBC, CNN, NPR, The History Channel, The New York Times and National Geographic.
