Bayou Teche Museum Water/Ways Exhibit

The Bayou Teche Museum, in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution and Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, and funded by BHP, will present Water/Ways, a six-week traveling exhibit, Oct. 16-Nov. 27, 2021.

With compelling text, imagery, interactives and videos, the Water/Ways exhibit reveals the central nature of water in our lives and takes a deep look at this essential component of life on our planet, which powers the environment’s engine, impacts climate and helps shape and sculpt the landscape.

But, water’s impact on humans is much more than just biological and environmental. Water is an important element in American culture. The Bayou Teche Museum will also host, either virtually or in-person, weekly programming that will include:

  • Both an adult and children’s book club
  • Water in Artistry featuring area artists
  • Water in Religion
  • A screening of the movie Deepwater Horizon
  • Water in Poetry featuring two Louisiana Poet Laureates and other local poets
  • Presentations by the Port of Delcambre and the Teche Project

The exhibit and all weekly programs presented are all free to the public.

About Bayou Teche Museum:
The state-of-the-art museum with a permanent collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the region tells the story of a growing city, its people, culture and industry all centered around the "snake-like" curves of the Bayou Teche. The museum is home to George Rodrigue’s studio, which includes the painting he was working on before his 2013 death.

Bayou Teche Museum is located at 131 E. Main St. in New Iberia. Details about the exhibit and weekly events can be found on the museum's website and Facebook page
