The Books Along the Teche Literary Festival is now accepting entries for its 2026 Flash Writing Contest, open to writers of all backgrounds and experience levels. The contest is part of the festival’s 10th anniversary celebration, taking place April 10–12, in historic downtown New Iberia.
This year’s theme, Louisiana Life, invites writers to explore the people, places, moments, and stories that define life along the bayou and beyond. Writers are encouraged to submit original, unpublished work that captures both the everyday and the extraordinary. Winning entries will be published and celebrated as part of the Books Along the Teche Literary Festival.
Contest Guidelines:
Entries must be submitted by February 15, 2026. The contest is open to all writers. Submissions must be original and unpublished, with a maximum length of 1,500 words. All entries will be reviewed blind; writers should not include their name on the submission.
Judging Criteria:
Entries will be evaluated based on originality, clarity, imagery, figurative language, and specificity.
Prizes:
- First Place – $100 gift card and publication
- Second Place – $50 gift card
- Third Place – $25 gift card
