The Bob Luckey Jazz Combo will be presenting a free concert at 3 p.m. on Sat., May 31, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church (1212 Jane St., New Iberia.)
The concert will feature music from the Swing Era to more modern jazz, showcasing a sampling of blues, bebop, hard bop, bossa nova, samba and jazz/rock fusion styles. Bob Luckey, the former Director of Jazz Studies at UL Lafayette, will perform on saxophones and will narrate the program giving informative comments about each style.
The combo includes Ron Crowley, former Las Vegas drummer and former member of the President’s Own Marine Band on drums; Paul Tassin, professional musician and teacher in the talented program of the Lafayette Parish Schools on keyboards; and Norma Jean Luckey, former music teacher, professional musician and now pastor of the church on keyboard bass, flute and vocals.
“New Iberia has a wealth of jazz history, starting with Bunk Johnson, the famous early jazz trumpeter, moving to the area and actively performing in the city,” said Norma Jean Luckey. “It is a privilege to carry on the jazz tradition in a city that was part of the origins of the art.”
